Similar to how bitcoin, or BTC, is the digital asset token of the Bitcoin network, Dogecoin, or DOGE, is the digital asset token of the Dogecoin network. It is graphically represented by a Shiba Inu cartoon that was influenced by the "doge" meme. The Dogecoin blockchain contains a record of every DOGE balance and transaction. Although the smallest DOGE unit has no official name, some commenters on message boards and in the Dogecoin subreddit have proposed the names "shibe" or "dogetoshi," which would imitate and pay respect to Bitcoin's smallest unit, the "satoshi." Dogecoin can be purchased, sold, and held in a Dogecoin wallet in exchange for fiat money or other digital currencies.
