MOSS Carbon Credit is a carbon credit token. As of the middle of 2021, MOSS directly prevented 2 million tons of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. One MCO2 token is equivalent to one carbon credit, or one metric ton of carbon that isn't emitted into the atmosphere, from an environmental initiative that has been Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) verified. The most popular carbon offset program in the world, VCS, implements a strict certification structure to confirm carbon offsets. By the middle of 2021, the money raised from the MCO2 tokenization has contributed to the preservation of more than 17 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest. MCO2 is an Ethereum network-compliant ERC-20 utility token. On the moss.earth platform, MCO2 holders can burn (or retire) their tokens and get a certificate proving they have offset one tonne of carbon emissions. Each MCO2 token is created and issued with a carbon footprint that is equal to zero in order to offset the energy required to produce them. MOSS continuously retires the required number of credits to offset the greenhouse gas emissions from its tokenization activities while monitoring the transactions and overall ledger.
